A job search is more than than applying for work to earn money and meet your obligations. This is your livelihood, it’s where you spend almost 50-60 percent of your time. If you don’t know what you want you may end up not being satisfied. Your Authentic Vocation is seeking work that taps into your natural skills and is fulfilling.
If you’ve been downsized, this is an opportunity to find what you really want to do. If you are currently in a job and don’t find it fulfilling, you may be thinking of moving on. Whatever, the scenario the first step is getting in touch with the Authentic You.
Eight Elements of Authentic Vocation:
If you truly want to find your calling, and we are all called to do a specific job, you will need to work through these eight elements of authentic vocation which are: What is your life’s purpose, what are your work values, what motivates you, what are your skills and talents, what is your work, what is your ideal career, what type of work environment do you thrive in.
Core Values & Beliefs
This entails identify what are your core values and beliefs. Some of you may be scratching your head wondering the heck I’m talking about. What priciples to you live by. I’ve always believed in telling the truth and sometimes I go overboard on the truth. In one of my jobs my manager spoke to me about the truth. There is the whole truth and nothing but the truth, There’s the whole truth. And theirs the truth. I thought about that for awhile and then I understood. What he was saying is that sometimes in business we can’t always tell the whole truth. We want to tell the truth, but we leave out some information. I can still be true to myself and tell the truth, it ‘s was a matter of at what degree do I need to tell the truth.
As Mahatma Ghandi said, “Your beliefs become your thoughts. Your thoughts become your words. Your words become your actions. Your actions become your habits. Your habits become your values. Your values become your destiny.”
